J&K Government to Commission 10 New Hospitals; Major Push for Tribal Welfare, Education and Livelihood Support
Jammu/Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced that 10 additional hospitals will be commissioned in the coming months to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand access to quality medical services across the Union Territory.
In the education sector, six Eklavya Model Residential Schools are currently functional, while more than 250 smart classrooms have been established to enhance digital learning infrastructure. Pre-matric and post-matric scholarships continue to benefit Scheduled Caste (SC) students, improving retention rates and expanding access to education.
Under the Bharat Awas Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, 393 tribal-majority villages across 20 districts have been covered. During 2025, ₹39.21 crore has been released for infrastructure development and allied works aimed at strengthening basic facilities in these areas.
Livelihood initiatives have also been intensified, with the establishment of 1,500 mini sheep, goat, and dairy units. Additionally, 10 milk villages and three milk chilling plants have been set up to support rural dairy economies and boost income generation among tribal communities.
To ensure dignity and safety for nomadic and transhumant tribes, seven transit accommodation units are being constructed along traditional migration routes. Of these, two units have already been completed.
The government stated that these initiatives reflect its continued commitment to strengthening healthcare, expanding educational opportunities, and improving livelihoods, particularly for tribal and marginalized communities across Jammu and Kashmir.
