Jammu Court Rejects Bail in Alleged ₹60 Lakh Fake Job Scam

JAMMU: The Court of Special Railway Magistrate, Jammu, has rejected the bail plea of three accused persons in a case involving allegations of cheating and forgery on the pretext of providing government jobs, citing the gravity of the offence and the early stage of investigation.

Special Railway Magistrate Sandeep Singh Sen observed that the accused are alleged to have duped several innocent youths of nearly ₹60 lakh by falsely promising government employment and issuing fake appointment orders. The prosecution submitted that crucial recoveries, including forged documents and cheated money, are still pending, and that some co-accused are absconding.

Opposing bail, the prosecution argued that the accused were part of an organised scheme, that similar cases are already registered against one of the accused, and that release on bail could hamper investigation and influence witnesses. Emphasis was laid on the need for a stricter approach in economic offences.

The defence contended that the accused were falsely implicated, that no money was deposited in their accounts, and relied on Supreme Court precedents favouring bail. However, the court was not convinced.

Holding that several victims were allegedly lured of their hard-earned money and that the investigation is at a premature stage with recoveries yet to be effected, the court concluded that the accused do not deserve the leniency of bail at this stage and dismissed the application.
